Thermal baths

In Hungary you can find many thermal baths. These are there for many, many years and it even goes back to the time of the Romans. The springs were used by the Romans to build the first baths. During the time of the Turkish rule, the bathing culture also started.

The cause of the many springs is the volcanic sub-layer in Hungary. The earth's crust is about 10 kilometers thinner than elsewhere in Europe so that it can find its way up a bit easier.

The Hungarians use the baths to relax but also to cure certain diseases. There are entire lists of ingredients of the water and for which disease one can best go to which bath. Bathing is also a social ritual, a place to meet your family and friends to chat, play some chess etc.
